Academic Conference: A source to expand the knowledge base

One of the most important question that you might ponder on while pursuing your PhD research will be about academic conferences. Should you attend one? When should you attend an academic conference? Should you present your work in the conference? How much of your work is good enough for an academic conference?

These are some of the questions that must be buzzing about inside your head. The answer to all your doubts is – dispel them. The time to attend that academic conference is now. Whether you believe you have something to contribute or not, be sure that you will have lots of learn from an academic conference.

One of the greatest benefits of an academic conference is networking. When you attend an academic conference, you get to meet other people who have been working in your field of research and who are a lot ahead of you in their work than you are. They are the ones who may become your future bosses or colleagues and even friends who help you in your career. Why would you give up on the chance of such brilliant networking.

It does not matter if you are at the nascent stages of your research. You may still be able to present the idea of your research for a lot of people are interested in abstracts. They understand that the work may not be complete but they are still interested to know about ideas. If you find persons or researchers who seem fairly interested in your idea, you know that you are doing just great.

In the beginning phase of your research, it is best to attend an academic conference just to increase your knowledge base. From understanding the extensive research being done in your choice of subject to knowing about people who are working hard on it, you would have gained invaluable information that would help you with your work in the future.

However, attending academic conference is a time consuming affair, not to mention the costs that you may have to incur on travel, food and stay. Again, there may be too many conferences to choose from and not all be prove to be as beneficial. The best way to go about it, is to plan ahead, and mark the one academic conference you think is the most important for you and then prepare for it accordingly.
